The Carpenter Leadhand is an integral part of the construction team and carries out construction processes in accordance with the direction, policies and objectives set by the project manager.  The primary responsibility of this position is to lead teams in construction activity on the build site – this includes planning, preparation, execution and clean‐up. The Lead Carpenter is the “working” leader on site and he or she must have strong verbal communication & listening skills making them capable of directing other carpenters, skilled and unskilled laborers and sub-trades working on site.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the successful completion of a varying variety of projects assigned to them, from start to completion, undertaking site organization, high level of quality workmanship, meeting scheduled dates and within budget
  • Oversee subcontractors, vendors and employees on site
  • Plan and delegate daily activities in line with the project plan
  • Ensure tasks are completely efficiently and safely
  • Provide on‐the‐job training and supervision for semi‐skilled and unskilled workers
  • Execute required activities of the project
  • Knowledge of construction methods and various trades, such as: safe demolition practices, framing experience in floor systems, walls, roof trusses, hand cut roofs, underlayment, drywall hanging, taping and finishing, painting, all types of flooring installation, finish carpentry (trim detail, casing, baseboard, shoe mold, crown and cabinet installation), window and door installation
  • Knowledge of construction methods and various trades, such as: safe demolition practices, framing experience in floor systems, walls, roof trusses, hand cut roofs, underlayment, drywall hanging, taping and finishing, painting, all types of flooring installation, finish carpentry (trim detail, casing, baseboard, shoe mold, crown and cabinet installation), window and door installation
  • Operate and care for construction equipment and tools
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties including errands as necessary, deemed by the project manager

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of recent carpentry experience (particularly in residential renovation and construction)
  • 2+ Years of project management experience (preferred)
  • Valid driver license
  • Punctual, reliable, self-starter
  • Commitment to working safely

Working Conditions

  • Work sites may vary and include working outside in all conditions

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy loads in excess of 40 pounds etc.)
